Stress and That Little Nagging Side Pain

I have been under an enormous amount of stress this week, and tagging along with the stress came that little nagging side pain I get periodically. Now that I understand what is causing it (PKD), I am concerned that the stress may actually be advancing the disease. If anyone can direct me to information regarding how stress may affect PKD, I would appreciate it.

In the meantime, I guess I will add it to my list of questions to ask my doctor at my visit next month.

Hi Margaret,
I just found your blog, and your family's PKD story is so similar to ours. My teenage daughter was just diagnosed in February 2007, before we knew that anyone else in our family had the disease. I would love to "talk" to you via e-mail. My e-mail address is mloren01@gmail.com. If you send me an e-mail, please put PKD in the memo so I know not to delete it. I hope to hear from you soon!

Sincerely,
Marlene

Hi Again,
I meant to answer your question about stress. Stress is definitely not good for any of us, with or without PKD. It can cause an increase in your blood pressure, which is also not good. Try your hardest to stay calm. I know that I always have worried a lot, but the truth is that it doesn't help anything at all, and probably actually makes things worse. Try your best to be optimistic!

PKD will cause high blood pressure in the majority of PKD patients and high blood pressure destroys kidneys, causes heart and vascular damage, etc... and stress will cause high blood pressure. Again, if you qualify for one of the PKD medical drug studies, you would receive a home blood pressure monitor for free. You need and your daughter needs to monitor your blood pressure often. By often I mean several times a week and generally a couple of hours after eating or drinking anything with caffeine. Don't add salt to anything and try not to have caffeine in more than one beverage per day. Also, PKD will cause most people to get dehydrated easily. Drink 8 to 10 glasses of water ever y day at a minimum and more if you are perspiring alot. Blessings to you, Scott from Minnesota

So the high blood pressure add caffeine are the real billions, stress just doesn't help high blood pressure? Even happy things can cause stress and not raise your blood pressure. Am I understanding this right? How big is the caffeine factor?
